Industrial Hygiene Services

ABS Environmental Group is uniquely suited to tackle challenging industrial hygiene problems and provide successful, cost-effective solutions. Our team is comprised of  highly qualified Certified Industrial Hygienists conducting field work, data interpretation, report drafting, and project review. This commitment to occupational health allows ABS Environmental Group to provide exceptional service in the area of industrial hygiene.

Industrial hygiene is an "art and science" involving the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational and environmental health hazards. The field of industrial hygiene is broad and encompasses a variety of potential hazards including chemical, physical (such as noise, ergonomics, and safety), radiological, and biological hazards. Some of our most requested services by employers include the following:

  • Hazardous Chemical Air Monitoring - Evaluation of a task or a series of tasks (i.e., a process) to determine chemical exposures to workers and adjacent office personnel via inhalation. Results of air monitoring are compared to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Threshold Limit Values (TLV’s), and/or National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Recommended Exposure Limits (REL’s).

  • OSHA Compliance Air Monitoring - Air monitoring for a variety of OSHA-regulated chemicals such as methylene chloride, lead, benzene, asbestos, and formaldehyde to meet the stringent OSHA standards and chemical specific sampling requirements for these chemicals.

  • Process-Based Analysis - Review of workplace processes to identify potential hazards, prioritize industrial hygiene evaluation requirements, complete evaluation of the processes, and control hazards. Process and task-based evaluation allows the employer to group exposures ensuring that personnel completing the task are evaluated and monitored for health-related risks.

  • Personal Protective Equipment Selection - Based on a process analysis and evaluation of potential hazards, HEG can provide recommendations for personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE recommendations may include respirator selection, protective garment material selection, glove selection, and eye protection.

  • Ventilation Design and Evaluation - ABS Environmental Group is experienced in the evaluation of existing ventilation ductwork design to control workplace exposures at the point of contaminant generation. In-house equipment allows HEG to provide measurements at the time of evaluation to document the effectiveness of the existing ventilation design. Assistance can also be provided to improve on an existing design, review mechanical drawings for future design, or assist in selecting a new ventilation system that will control the hazardous contaminant.

  • Noise Evaluation - ABS Environmental Group has in-house equipment to evaluate point sources of noise and estimate full work shift exposures to noise. Noise frequency evaluation and assistance in the control of stationary sources is also available.

  • Ergonomics Evaluation - ABS Environmental Group is adept at the evaluation of computer workstations and industrial processes to identify cost-effective, easy adjustments to equipment in order to "fit" the job to the worker. Many of these evaluations are necessitated by fatigue complaints, repetitive motion injuries, and drops in productivity. Large-scale redesign and selection and critical review of ergonomically correct devices is also available through HEG.

  • Training - ABS Environmental Group can provide training in an array of occupational, safety, and health issues including but not limited to hazard communication, respiratory protection, wear and use of personal protective equipment, biological hazards, indoor air quality, radiological exposure and control, hazardous noise, among many others. Our company can also develop training modules to keep your employees abreast of new technologies and current best practices for a variety of health-related issues.

  • Health and Safety Program Development - If you are just starting out and need assistance in developing a culture of safety and health in your workplace or industry, ABS Environmental Group can assist you in this endeavor. Development of written plans, estimating costs of running an industrial hygiene program, and assistance on getting started is available through our team of experts.

We look forward to assisting you with your journey in attaining a safety and health culture at your workplace or in your field. Please contact our office at 502-212-9488 for more information on a specific program area or with general questions about industrial hygiene.
